Just hours after San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singeltary extended the teams offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye his vote of confidence, Jason La Canfora is reporting that the 49ers have decided to let Raye go.
The team has stuck with Mike Singletary‘s smash mouth football styled offense and has had very limited success because of it. The 49ers have decided to promote the team’s quarterback coach Mike Johnson to be their new offensive coordinator.
Considering that they were picked to be the odds on NFC West favorite, their 0 – 3 record looks pretty dire at this point. Changing offensive coordinators mid-season makes for a pretty tough transition and rarely turns into a successful situation. Just ask the Kansas City Chiefs how their 2009 season went.
