Three Teams Have Reached Out To Adrian Peterson Following Release

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that three teams have already reached out to veteran RB Adrian Peterson on Friday following the news that he’s been released by Washington.

Peterson has said he fully intends to continue his NFL career, despite being released.

Peterson was still a bit shocked when he was called in to be released by HC Ron Rivera on Friday morning, as Washington opts to go with rookie second-round pick Antonio Gibson as their starting running back.

“It caught me by surprise,” Peterson told Josina Anderson of ESPN“I was having a strong camp. It was showing up on film, taking the number one reps all the way to this week. I just got notified by the running backs coach yesterday that they want to give these young guys some reps, but I didn’t know I was going to get cut, there was no indication. Today (Ron) Rivera just said this is always tough, but yes we’re gonna release you and go with this offensive style. I respect the coach. Look (Antonio) Gibson is a hell of a talent. This system really fits him. I feel like I can do that pony style too, more as a receiving back. We were all working on it, but they really want one main guy to do it & they drafted Gibson for it. Trust me, I still have a lot in me, more to strive for and do again. Even when there’s doubt. I feel strong and I can build on that as the season wears on. I’ll do it again.”

Some have mentioned that the Chiefs could be a landing spot for Peterson, but that’s just early speculation.

Peterson, 35, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints.

The Saints later traded Peterson to the Cardinals for a 2018 sixth-round pick back in 2017. However, Arizona cut him loose and he eventually signed on with the Redskins.

Washington brought Peterson back last year on a two-year contract worth $8 million that included an option. Unfortunately for Peterson, they opted to move on from him on Friday.

In 2019, Peterson appeared in 15 games for the Redskins and rushed for 898 yards on 211 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 17 receptions for 142 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Peterson as the news is available.
