Titans Bench Marcus Mariota In Favor Of Ryan Tannehill

The Tennessee Titans made the decision during Sunday’s game against the Broncos to bench QB Marcus Mariota in favor of Ryan Tannehill.

The Titans were getting shut out by the Broncos, so Tennessee and their coaching staff are clearly looking for an offensive spark.

It will be interesting to see how the Titans do with Tannehill and whether this impacts Mariota’s status as the starter in the coming weeks.

Mariota, 25, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Titans back in 2015.  He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract that’s fully guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $2,636,270 to go along with another $3,736,905 next year.

The Titans picked up Mariota’s fifth-year option back in April worth $20.922 million for the 2019 season. Mariota will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career in 2020.

Entering today’s game, Mariota had appeared in five games and completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,116 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 125 yards.
