Titans Rookie QB Zach Mettenberger Out For The Season

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger will miss the remainder of the 2014 season after an MRI confirmed that he has an AC joint separation.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder on Sunday that is believed to be more significant than the previous injury he was dealing with.

Mettenberger underwent an X-ray following Sunday’s game that came back negative. However, Wyatt adds that he’s scheduled to have an MRI on Monday, and the belief is that the injury is at the very least a bad sprain that will require time to heal.

According to Wyatt, indications are that Mettenberger is likely out for the remainder of the season.

This is the second shoulder injury he’s suffered in the past two weeks. The Titans really have nothing to play for at this point in the season, so it makes sense for them to shut Mettenberger down and allow him time to get back to being 100 percent.

Jake Locker took over for Mettenberger on Sunday and should get one last opportunity to impress teams before he becomes a free agent next year.

Mettenberger, 23, entered today’s game completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,287 yards receiving to go along with eight touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of six games.

It will be interesting to see if the Titans target another quarterback in next year’s NFL draft, or if they are confident enough in Mettenberger’s abilities to move forward with him as their starter in 2015.
