LaDainian Tomlinson Considered The Broncos Before Retiring

Before RB LaDainian Tomlinson signed a one day contract with the San Diego Chargers to retire as a member of the team that drafted him, Kevin Acee of UTSanDiego.com reports that L.T. considered signing with the Denver Broncos.

“The only team I really gave a thought to was the Broncos, because of Peyton,” Tomlinson said, talking about Broncos QB Peyton Manning. “We talked. It made me pause a little and think, ‘Was this what I really want to do?’ …‘They got Peyton, they have a good defense already; they went deep in the playoffs with Tim Tebow, what are they going to do with Peyton?’ I seriously thought about it.”

Tomlinson didn’t think about joining Peyton Manning in Denver too long.

“That was the only reason I considered Denver,” he said. “At the same time, I thought, ‘How much is a Super Bowl ring really going to do for you at this point?’ Because it’s not with the team I really wanted to do it with.”

“And you know what? At the end of the day I was thinking, ‘I can’t do that.’ It’s not as bad as being a Raider — but almost.”

The Broncos are expecting Willis McGahee to handle the bulk of the workload this season, but Knowshon Moreno should also see time as third-down back in the team’s offense. Many assumed that rookie Ronnie Hillman would work his way into the mix, but reports have mentioned that he’s been spending his time with the reserves.
