Jason Cole of B/R has spoken to a few NFL executives around the league who have said that the value of the Browns’ No. 2 overall pick has gone “way up” since the Rams completed their trade with the Titans for No. 1 overall.
The executive believes the No. 2 pick is clearly the most valuable pick right now and teams are eyeing a potential deal with the Browns for one of the two top quarterback prospects.
According to Cole, the Jets, Eagles and 49ers are all in the mix to potentially swing a deal with Cleveland and move up to the No. 2 spot.
Cole adds that questions remain whether the Browns are really willing to pass on a quarterback at No. 2 and trade down the board for more draft picks.
Yesterday,ย Jason La Canfora of CBSย reported that the Browns have become “increasingly motivated to deal the second-overall pick.”
โThey want to move out of that spot and everyone knows it,โ an NFLย executive tellsย La Canfora.
According to La Canfora,ย the Browns want Cal QB Jared Goff, but executives around the league insist that he’s likely headed to the Rams at No. 1 overall. Cleveland reportedly views the gap between Goff and Carson Wentz as “fairly wide” and using their No. 2 overall pick on Wentz would be a “tough sell.”
It’s worth mentioning that there have been some conflicting reports about who the Rams are really targeting at the top of the draft. Even so, there’s enough buzz about the Rams and Goff to believe that he could very well be their guy.
Cleveland signed Robert Griffin III to aย two-year contractย worth $15 million and included $6.75 million guaranteed,ย so they may prefer to see what he can do with a fresh start and in Hue Jackson’s offense while focusing on a long-term rebuild through the draft.
One potential option for the Browns in a trade back could beย MSU QB Connor Cook, as there has beenย a decent amount of buzz about being a popular option at the end of round one or possibly in round two.
We’ll have more regarding the Browns’ draft plans as the news is available.
