Vance Joseph Facing “Long Odds” Of Being Back With Broncos Next Year?

Update:

Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing league sources, reports that Broncos HC Vance Joseph is facing “increasingly longer odds” of being back in Denver after the season.

As of now, the Broncos and VP of football operations John Elway have yet to make a final decision regarding Joseph’s status with the team, but it’s clear that this is a situation worth monitoring in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Mike Florio reports that there’s a “growing sense” within the Broncos that Joseph could be one and done in Denver.

Florio mentions that Elway is likely concerned not only by the number of losses the team posted this year, but also the fact that eight of the 10 came in double digits with four them being by 20 points or more.

According to Alex Marvez, Broncos HC Vance Joseph is moving forward with the expectation that he will return for a second year as the team’s head coach.

A source tells Marvez that Joseph has already made plans for some assistant coaching changes and has even lined up at least one interview this week for a pending staff replacement.

Even so, it remains to be seen what Broncos VP John Elway will do regarding Joseph.

Ian Rapoport reports while there has been no definitive call regarding Joseph, it does seem as though he’s in good enough standing to get another year in Denver. While that appears to be the case, Rapoport’s sources caution to assume nothing until there’s final word from Elway.

The fact that the Broncos were able to get two straight wins late in the season has reportedly helped Joseph’s cause, according to Rapoport.

Other changes are expected to come for the team’s coaching staff including the possibility of moving on from special teams coach Brock Olivo.

Joseph, 45, began his NFL coaching career with the 49ers back in 2005 as an assistant defensive backs coach. From there, Joseph worked for the Texans and Bengals before he was hired as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator for the 2016 season.

The Broncos previously had interest in Joseph regarding their head-coaching job and eventually hired him for the position this past January.

In 2017, Joseph has led the team to a record of 5-10 (33.3 percent).

We’ll have more regarding Joseph and the Broncos as the news is available.
