Veteran DT Tom Johnson Retires From NFL

On Friday, veteran DT Tom Johnson told Chris Tomasson that he’s retired from the NFL after sitting out the entire 2019 season.

“I’m old. I’m 35 years old. I still have a little more juice. I want to be able to enjoy the rest of my life,” Johnson said. “I’ve done enough to be able to sustain a comfortable lifestyle.’’

According to Johnson, he had some offers but didn’t want to play on a minimum deal.

Johnson, 35, originally signed on with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss back in 2006. He lasted just over a year with the Colts before eventually catching on with the Saints in 2011.

After three years in New Orleans, Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Vikings and spent over four years in Minnesota. From there, the Seahawks signed Johnson to a one-year, $2.1 million contract for the 2018 season.

Johnson eventually returned to the Vikings in September.

For his career, Johnson appeared in 116 games for the Saints, Vikings and Seahawks and recorded 185 tackles, 25.5 sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles, two recoveries and three passes defended over the course of eight seasons.
