Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent OL Alex Boone, who retired a few years ago, is planning to return to the NFL.
According to Rapoport, Boone has been training and is back near his playing weight.
Boone, 33, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State back in 2009. After seven years in San Francisco, Boone signed a four-year, $26.8 million contract that includes $10 million guaranteed with the Vikings as a free agent.
Boone was set to make base salaries of $6.6. million over the remainder of the contract when the Vikings cut him loose as they cut their roster down to 53 players in 2017. From there, he signed on with the Cardinals before retiring.
For his career, Boone has appeared in 105 over the course of eight seasons, making 86 starts.
