Giants WRย Victor Cruz didn’t rule out the possibility that he could hold out for a new contact if talks regarding a long-term deal don’t progress in the coming months.
“I have no answer to that,” said Cruz when asked if he would be willing to hold out.
Cruz will be a restricted free agent in the next few months, but the two sides appear to be no closer to reaching an agreement, despite the fact that they have discussed an extension.
โYou have a salary cap,โ said Giants owner John Mara regarding Cruz’s asking price. โIf you spend too much money in him, itโs going to limit what you can do in other areas. We have needs. Iโm hopeful we are going to make a deal, but we have a year to get that worked out.โ
It seems almost certain that the Giants will apply a first-round tender to Cruz in the next few weeks. Cruz is obviously hoping to get a deal done in the near future, so the talk of a potential holdout is most likely related to him and his agent maximizing their leverage in negotiations.
