Washington Officially Names Dwayne Haskins Starting QB

Washington HC Ron Rivera officially named 2019 first-round QB Dwayne Haskins the team’s starter, per JP Finlay.

“Dwayne’s lived up to everything we talked about in January,” Rivera said via Nicki Jhabvala.

This isn’t a big surprise, as Haskins had been taking most of the first-team reps at training camp. But it is notable given Rivera hadn’t ruled out either Alex Smith or Kyle Allen as options.

Haskins, 23, was selected by Washington with the No. 14 overall pick after many believed he would end up being a top-10 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. According to OverTheCap.com, Haskins received a four-year, $14,416,600 rookie contract that included an $8,504,800 signing bonus.

Haskins’ contract includes a fifth-year option for Washington to pick up in 2022.

In 2019, Haskins appeared in nine games for Washington and completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 1,365 yards to go along with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 101 yards.
