49ers Releasing G Jonathan Cooper

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers are releasing G Jonathan Cooper on Saturday as they cut their roster down to 53 players.

Other reported roster cuts for the 49ers include:

  1. OL JP Flynn
  2. RB Ja’Quan Gardner
  3. G Chris Gonzalez
  4. QB Jack Heneghan
  5. DL Chris Jones
  6. P Jeff Locke
  7. T Pace Murphy
  8. WR Aldrick Robinson
  9. TE Wes Saxton
  10. DL Will Sutton
  11. OL Darrell Williams
  12. RB Joe Williams
  13. ILB Korey Toomer
  14. G Jonathan Cooper

Cooper, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. The Cardinals traded him to the Patriots as part of the Chandler Jones trade, but New England declined to pick up his fifth-year option and later cut him loose in 2016.

The Browns later claimed him off of waivers from New England but he lasted just a few months in Cleveland. The Cowboys signed Cooper to a one-year, $2 million contract last year.

The 49ers signed Cooper to a one year contract this offseason, but the team was apparently not impressed enough to keep him around for the start of the season.

In 2017, Cooper appeared in 13 games for the Cowboys and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 35 guard out of 77 qualifying players.
