Browns Hire Michael Lombardi As VP Of Personnel, Could Target Ryan Mallett

The Cleveland Browns have announced that they have hired NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi as their VP of player personnel.

This move probably won’t bode well for QB Brandon Weeden, as Lombardi was pretty vocal about him not being a good fit with the Browns.

I think it’s gonna take some time to study him, I gotta go back through and watch practice tapes,” Lombardi said of Weeden. “… It’s gonna take me some time to really formulate my opinions on him.

Interestingly enough, a source from within the Browns’ organization informed ESPN Cleveland that Colt McCoy is “in the next head coach’s plans.

Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe mentions that the Browns could target Patriots backup QB Ryan Mallett as a potential trade option now that Lombardi is in place.

Lombardi has been high on Mallett in the past and even suggested that he could have been a top-20 pick back in 2011. It will be interesting to see if Mallett is on their radar at all in the next few weeks.
