Ian Rapoport reports that the Chiefs and 49ers are “deep” in trade talks right now on a deal for DE/OLB Dee Ford.
According to Rapoport, talks between the two parties have escalated to the point where an agreement could be in place later tonight.
Rapoport mentions that the 49ers need to work out a new contract with Ford, which is a “big piece” of the trade.
Tom Pelissero adds that Trey Flowers new contract with the Lions is could end up being a baseline for this trade.
The 49ers and Packers were both reportedly considering a trade for Ford, but Green Bay elected to sign to pass rushers on Tuesday, which left San Francisco as a potential trade partner for Ford.
Reports have said the Chiefs would like to get a second-round pick for Ford, so this is coming to keep an eye on.
Ford, 27, was taken with the No. 23 overall pick by the Chiefs back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $8.158 million rookie contract when the Chiefs picked up his fifth-year option.
Ford made a base salary of $8,718,000 million for the 2018 season. He was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason when the Chiefs franchised him a few weeks ago.
In 2018, Ford appeared in 15 games for the Chiefs and recorded 55 tackles, 13 sacks, seven forced fumble and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.
