49ers Designate Jimmy Garoppolo To Return, Place Josh Johnson & Kevin White On COVID-19 List

It remains to be seen whether the 49ers will play Garoppolo in either of the team’s final two games. Recent reports said it was unlikely we would see him again.

Although, 49ers QB Nick Mullens is set to undergo season-ending elbow surgery.

The COVID-19 list was created this summer for a player who either tests positive for or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons.

Players will remain on the list until they are medically cleared to return.

Garoppolo, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. The Patriots traded him to the 49ers in 2017 at the trade deadline in return for a 2018 second-round pick.

Garoppolo was in line to be an unrestricted free agent when the 49ers signed him to a five-year, $137.5 million contract during the 2018 offseason.

In 2020, Garoppolo has appeared in six games for the 49ers and completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 1,096 yards, seven touchdowns, and five touchdowns.
