49ers Interested In Robert Saleh & Patriots LBs Coach Brian Flores For DC Position

Jay Glazer reports that new 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan will want to speak with Patriots LBs coach Brian Flores about their defensive coordinator vacancy.

  •  Ian Rapoport of NFL Media mentioned earlier in the day that Shanahan is also targeting Robert Saleh for the team’s defensive coordinator position.
  • Albert Breer also lists Jeff Hafley, Mike McDaniel, Mike Lafleur, Rich Scangarello and Richard Hightower as other possible targets for coaching positions with the 49ers.

Flores, 35, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots back in 2004 as a scouting assistant. He has held numerous position with New England including pro scout, special teams assistant, offensive assistant, defensive assistant, and safeties coach before he was promoted to linebackers coach in 2016.

Saleh was expected to be hired by the Chargers as their linebackers coach. However, it appears as though that may not be a done deal, considering that the 49ers could offer him an even better position. Mike Garafolo mentions that this is why you won’t find Saleh on the Chargers’ website just yet.

Saleh, 38, began his NFL coaching career with the Texans in 2005 as a defensive intern. He eventually worked his way up to assistant linebackers coach before he took over as the Seahawks defensive quality control coach in 2011.

The Jaguars later hired Saleh as their linebackers coach where he remained for the past three seasons.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers’ defensive coordinator search as the news is available.
