49ers Notes: Odell Beckham Jr, Antonio Brown, Richard Sherman, Draft

Odell Beckham Jr

49ers GM John Lynch confirmed that they had interest in trading for Odell Beckham Jr, but owning the No. 2 overall pick actually worked against them agreeing to a trade.

“I think, ironically, the fact that we had the No. 2 pick made it more difficult because they wanted that badly,” Lynch said, per Matt Barrows. “They wanted two No. 1s. And we weren’t willing to part with that. It was too valuable of a pick.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers’ offer was “very strong” and it sounds like a deal was “pretty close.”
  • According to Mike Garafolo, the word he received was that the 49ers wouldโ€™ve been amenable to moving from No. 2 overall down to No. 6 as part of a trade for Beckham. The problem was related to the rest of the compensation have been.

Antonio Brown

49ers GM John Lynch said during an interview with KNBR that they did not have interest in pursuing a trade for WR Antonio Brown.

“We took a quick look and then we just said, ‘Hey, we’re not interested in that for our team.’ That’s where we are,” Lynch said, per Matt Barrows. “I think we feel pretty good about our receiving corps. I know a lot of people don’t share our sentiments.

Richard Sherman

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Richard Sherman is expected to remain one of their starting quarterbacks this year.

โ€œEverybody on our team is competing at every position,โ€ Shanahan said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Bay Area. โ€œWe brought Sherm in here to be a starter. Thatโ€™s what weโ€™re expecting. But his position is no different from every other position.โ€

Although, Shanahan stressed the importance of the team’s cornerbacks being interchangeable.

โ€œWe want them to be interchangeable,โ€ Shanahan said. โ€œYouโ€™re one injury away so you want to mix them all around in both spots.โ€
