49ers Officially Starting QB Nick Mullens In Week 10

On Tuesday, 49ers QB Nick Mullens told reporters that HC Kyle Shanahan had informed him that he will be their starting quarterback for Week 10’s game against the Giants, per Matt Barrows.

All indications were that Mullens was going to get another start, so this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Mullens, 23, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason and later added to their practice squad.

The 49ers brought Mullens back on a futures contract this past January only to release him at the start of the regular season. Mullens had a brief stint on their practice squad before being called up following Jimmy Garoppolo‘s season-ending knee injury.

In 2018, Mullens has appeared in one game for the 49ers and completed 16 of 22 pass attempts (72.7 percent) for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
