49ers Starting Nick Mullens At QB Against Raiders

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers will start Nick Mullens at quarterback for Thursday’s game against the Raiders and have C.J. Beathard serve as his backup.

An NFL source tells Adam Schefter that 49ers QB C.J. Beathard is “truly 50-50 for tonight’s game (vs. Raiders)” due to a wrist injury that has made it hard for him to grip a football.

If Beathard can’t start, the 49ers would go with QB Nick Mullens.

Beathard, 24, is a former third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $3.528 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $625,393 and $785,786 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Beathard has appeared in six games for the 49ers and thrown for 1,252 yards while completing 60.4 percent of his passes to go along with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown.
