49ers Showing Interest In Free Agent K Stephen Gostkowski

According to Matt Maiocco, the 49ers have shown interest in free agent K Stephen Gostkowski

Gostkowski and the Patriots have not been able to come to an agreement, while 49ers K Robbie Gould has yet to sign his franchise tender.

The Patriots made Gostkowski the highest-paid kicker in the NFL with a four-year, $17.2 million deal in 2017. The Patriots were reportedly seeking a “market correction” after no other teams beat that contract for kickers.

The 49ers placed the one-year, $4.971 million tag on Gould despite his indication to the team he would like to explore the open market and possibly return to the Bears.

49ers GM John Lynch said the team was working on an extension with Gould, but this indicates negotiations might be stalled.

Gostkowski, 35, is a former fourth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2006. He’s played his entire 13-year career in New England and just finished out his four-year, $17.2 million contract.

In 2018, Gostkowski appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and converted 27 of 32 field goal attempts (84.4 percent) to go along with 49 of 50 extra point tries (98 percent).

Gould, 36, originally signed on with the Patriots back in 2005 as an undrafted free agent, but he lasted just a few months in New England before joining the Ravens briefly and later joining the Bears.

Gould was in the fourth year of his five-year, $17.925 million contract when he was released by the Bears at the start of the 2016 season. He later signed a one-year deal with the Giants.

The 49ers brought Gould in on a two-year, $4 million contract in 2017. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2018, Gould appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and converted 33 of 34 field goal attempts (97.1 percent) to go along with 27 of 29 extra point tries (93.1 percent).
