49ers Sticking With Nick Mullens As Starting QB

49ers QB Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Tuesday that QB Nick Mullens will continue to start.

Nick Mullens is our starter until I say different,” said Shanahan, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

This does not come as a surprise given Mullens has played considerably well since earning the starting spot.

Mullens, 23, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason and later added to their practice squad.

The 49ers brought Mullens back on a futures contract this past January only to release him at the start of the regular season. Mullens had a brief stint on their practice squad before being called up following Jimmy Garoppolo‘s season-ending knee injury.

In 2018, Mullens has appeared in two games for the 49ers and recorded 43 completions on 61 pass attempts (70.5 percent) for 512 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
