49ers Waive RB Marcus Lattimore From The Reserve/NFI List

The San Francisco 49ers waived RB Marcus Lattimore from the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday, which is really just a formality seeing as he has already announced his retirement from the NFL.

Lattimore, 23, was a fourth-round selection of the 49ers during the 2013 NFL draft, but wasn’t able to appear in an NFL game. He had another two years remaining on his four-year, $2.46 million rookie contract with base salaries of $585,000 and $675,000 coming his way during this time.

Lattimore’s first year in the NFL was spent on San Francisco’s Reserve/Non-Football Injury List. He was able to take part in the team’s offseason program several months ago, but was once again placed on the NFI list towards the start of the year.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell previously reported that Lattimore will receive $1.7 million tax-free from his insurance policy by retiring.

It’s always disappointing to see a talented young player’s career end before it ever got started. Lattimore is a highly respected individual that should have other opportunities in football should he chose to pursue them.
