49ers Worked Out Four Players

According to Aaron Wilson, the 49ers brought in four players for workouts on Wednesday including OTs Will Holden and Kyle Murphy

The full list of tryouts includes:

  1. OL Marcus Applefield
  2. OT Will Holden
  3. OL Jaryd Jones Smith
  4. OT Kyle Murphy

Of this group, the 49ers signed Holden to their practice squad.

Holden, 25, is a former fifth-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Vanderbilt. He spent one season with Arizona but was among their final roster cuts last year.

He bounced on and off the Colts’ and Saints’ practice squads before re-signing with the Cardinals in November of 2018. He signed with the Dolphins earlier this offseason but was waived last month.

The Seahawks signed him shortly after but was among their final roster cuts a few days later.

In 2018, Holden appeared in four games for the Cardinals.

Murphy, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Packers back in 2016. He signed four-year, $2.4 million contract with the Packers, but was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury in September of last year.

The Packers later waived Murphy in December. From there, Murphy signed on to the Rams’ practice squad and returned to Los Angeles on a futures contract back in February. However, the Rams waived him leading up to the draft.

In 2017, Murphy appeared in three games for the Packers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 54 offensive tackle out of 72 qualifying players.
