If the Jets come away from round one with Mayfield, Cimini says it’s still “unrealistic” for him to be their Week 1 starter and a more realistic scenario is for New York to open the season with Josh McCown as their starting quarterback.
Cimini can see the Jets making WR Jermaine Kearse available for trade during the draft.
Mike Reiss of ESPN mentions that based on the old Draft Value Chart, the Patriots No. 23 and No. 31 overall picks are worth a combined 1,3600 points, which would be enough to trade up to No. 9 overall for a player.
For what it’s worth, Reiss considers a trade up into the Top 10 to be “unlikely” for New England.
Reiss’ sense is that the Patriots are likely higher on South Carolina TE Hayden Hurst than Dallas Goedert and if New England is to use a first-round pick on a tight end, then they’re going to want a player they believe can equally contribute as a receiver and a blocker.
