AFC East Notes: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

The New York Jets and new HC Adam Gase announced the following coaching hires on Friday:

  • Shawn Jefferson — Assistant Head Coach Offense/Wide Receivers
  • Jim Bob Cooter — Running Backs
  • John Dunn — Tight Ends
  • Frank Pollack — Offensive Line
  • Derek Frazier — Assistant Offensive Line
  • Bo Hardegree — Offensive Assistant
  • Frank Bush — Assistant Head Coach Defense/Inside Linebackers
  • Andre Carter — Defensive Line
  • Joe Vitt — Senior Defensive Assistant/Outside Linebackers
  • Blake Williams — Defensive Assistant
  • Eric Sanders — Defensive Assistant

  • Doug Kyed of NESN mentions that the Patriots would be smart to sign QB Tom Brady to an extension this offseason not only to keep him under team control for another year, but to lower his $27 million cap hit and free up some extra cap room to work with this offseason.
  • Kyed believes the Patriots’ top priority should be to re-sign DE Trey Flowers
  • Kyed’s best guess is that OT Trent Brown will depart in free agency and the Patriots replace him with Isaiah Wynn
  • No matter what happens with TE Rob Gronkowski, Kyed thinks New England would be wise to draft a tight end high this year, especially considering the depth at the position.
