AFC East Notes: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

Dolphins WR Albert Wilson says he’s “right on track” with his recovery from a hip injury and there is “no reason” why he wouldn’t play in Week 1.

Every test they’ve wanted me to take I’ve been right on track so there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be out there week one. I’m 100, I’m ready to go in when they give me the OK,” said Wilson, via Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald

Jets

  • Gil Brandt of NFL.com writes that the Jets hiring NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah to their front-office staff is “not happening.”
  • Brandt adds that former Browns GM Phil Savage could be hired by Jets’ new GM Joe Douglas to join their front office.
  • According to Jason McIntyre, the Jets signed Douglas to a six-year, $19.8 million deal after initially offering a four-year, $7.6 million contract.
  • Jason La Canfora names Savage and Ravens’ executive Chad Alexander as two people who could join the Jets’ front office.

Patriots

Patriots TE Matt LaCosse said he has an “obviously” good opportunity to inherit the team’s No. 1 tight end role after the departures of Rob Gronkowski, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and Benjamin Watson suspended the first four weeks of the season.

Obviously it’s a good opportunity, but nothing’s been earned yet,” LaCosse said, via the team’s official site. “We still have a really long way to go. Everyone’s competing for the same spot. I haven’t earned anything yet. It’s kinda one of those things where you keep pedal on the metal and you kinda get what you earn here.”

While Lacosse is on top of the depth chart for the Patriots at tight end right now. he understands that doesn’t mean anything for the future.

“Obviously it’s a good opportunity, but nothing’s been earned yet,” LaCosse said via the team website. “We still have a really long way to go. Everyone’s competing for the same spot. I haven’t earned anything yet. It’s kinda one of those things where you keep pedal on the metal and you kinda get what you earn here.”
