AFC East Notes: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

  • Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald says that if the Broncos had been willing to trade RB C.J. Anderson for a seventh-round pick last year, the Dolphins would have been interested in that deal, as long as he would have agreed to a restructured contract.
  • However, Salguero reports that the Dolphins aren’t planning to sign Anderson and they intend to add at least one running back in the draft and possibly sign some undrafted free agents as well.
  • Salguero adds that Anderson is no longer an option for Miami now that they’ve brought in veteran RB Frank Gore.
  • We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Jets

  • Manish Mehta says that he heard a rumor recently about the Jets trading S Marcus Maye and picks to the Buccaneers if Penn State RB Saquon Barkley is still on the board at No. 7 overall. However, sources have told Mehta that there’s no truth to the rumor.
  • Charles Robinson mentions that if the Jets aren’t actually serious about taking Mayfield at No. 3 overall, “they’ve done a remarkable job spreading disinformation to protect their target.
  • According to Robinson, Mayfield to the Jets “seems to be a more consistent assumption than any other player/team.”

Patriots

UCLA LT Kolton Miller mentioned that the Patriots have a need at left tackle and could see himself being drafted by New England with their No. 23 or No. 31 overall pick.

They’re going to draft a left tackle,” Miller, via Jeff Howe of The Athletic. “They have those two first-round picks, and there’s a need for that. You’d think they’d draft at that spot for a lineman. There are a lot of things, like the Patriots, it’s very complicated. You don’t know anything really for certain with this process. I see that spot at (Nos.) 23 and 31. I’m like, damn, they need a left tackle.”

Howe writes that the Patriots have gone “all in” on Miller during the pre-draft process.
