AFC North Notes: Bengals, Browns, Ravens

Bengals

  • Jay Morrison of The Athletic doesn’t believe that the Bengals will select a tight end in this year’s draft.
  • Morrison notes that Cincinnati was pleased with the growth of TE Drew Sample before an injury cut his rookie season short, and they also like projected starting TE C.J. Uzomah.

Browns

  • Browns GM Andrew Berry said of the team’s reported interest in free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney: “I’m not going to get into the habit of commenting on players that aren’t on our roster. Jadeveon, he’s a good football player. We’re actively always looking. We’re going to be aggressive and adding talent to the roster.’’ (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • As for the delay in officially signing S Karl Joseph, Berry said: “The big thing there is just the physical. It’s a little bit challenging from state-to-state. That’s really the only reason he hasn’t been announced.”
  • Berry was asked if he’s focusing on left tackle in the NFL draft: “I wouldn’t make any assumptions about what we may or may or not do moving forward. My goal is to make sure we’re adding talent across the roster.’’
  • Berry also noted that Jack Conklin and Chris Hubbard can both play left tackle.
  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Browns signed CB Kevin Johnson to a one-year contract worth up to $6M. The deal includes a $1M signing bonus, a $1.5M base salary, up to $1M roster bonuses for games active $62,500 per game, and $2.5M incentive for playtime, playoffs, 1st-2nd team All-Pro.
  • Turron Davenport reports that West Virginia CB Keith Washington had video interviews with the Jets and Chargers. Other teams that have expressed the most interest include the Rams, Browns, Panthers, and Titans.

Ravens

  • Per the Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta notes most of the highly-rated offensive tackles could help the Ravens at guard as well.
  • If the Ravens were to trade up, DeCosta said Baltimore would have to be convinced they’re getting an elite prospect. (Zrebiec)
  • The 2020 wide receiver class is so deep that DeCosta thinks the Ravens could land an immediate impact player as late as the fifth round. (Zrebiec)
  • DeCosta praised Oklahoma LB Kenneth Murray, who could be an option for the Ravens if he’s available in the first round: “He’s been a really good defensive player on a team that hasn’t really had a lot of really good defensive players lately. I think he’s a great student of the game.” (Hensley)
  • Texas A&M DT Justin Madubuike had a Top 30 visit scheduled with the Ravens before the shutdown. (Aaron Wilson)
