AFC North Notes: Bengals, Browns, Ravens

Bengals

  • Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that this year’s supplemental draft picks could pique the Bengals interest.
  • Owczarski points out that Virginia Tech DB Adonis Alexander, Mississippi State S Brandon Bryant and Western Michigan CB Sam Beal all fit positions and physical traits that suit the Bengals.
  • Beyond that, the Bengals do have some late-round picks to work with next year.

Browns

Browns DC Gregg Williams explained that second-year DE Myles Garrett is actually someone they’re worried about overworking because he pushes himself so hard to be great.

“He is one of the few guys that I have had to coach that I know I am going to have to keep my hand on to hold back,” Williams said, via Pat McManamon of ESPN.com. “One of the things with him is his overworking. He works so hard because he does not want to be good; he wants to be great.

“Sometimes he can be his own worst enemy in that respect because he works so hard physically that he has to do a good job with recovery also. The next thing is this — and he knows — if he stays healthy, watch out.”

Garrett admitted that ensuring he’s healthy and ready to play will be important this season.

The best quality is availability,” Garrett said. “I have to be present.”

Ravens

New Ravens DC Wink Martindale has made some tweaks to the team’s defense this year to give their players more freedom to make plays.

It’s changed a lot,” Terrell Suggs said of the defense, via BaltimoreRavens.com.We’re happy about it.

Martindale believes the defense now has more depth across the board to work with in 2018.

“We just have to stay healthy,” Martindale said. “There is more depth across the board.
