AFC North Notes: Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Steelers

Bengals

  • Bengals HC Marvin Lewis told reporters on Friday that he doesn’t think 2017 first-round WR John Ross was a miss for them and he was just dealing with injuries. (Jim Owczarski)
  • Lewis said that they will look to add offensive linemen this offseason, but they are not moving Clint Boling to left tackle and like him where he is. (Jim Owczarski)

Browns

  • When asked about playing for the Browns, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield told reporters: “If anybody’s going to have a chance to turn that franchise around, it’s going to be me.” (Mike Jones)

Ravens

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told reporters on Friday that he will still be involved with the team after his final season as the team’s general manager.

“The role will be] very similar to what he’s been with me,” Newsome said, via Jamison Hensley. “I’ll just be a resource for him, a resource for Steve (Bisciotti) and a resource for John (Harbaugh).”

  • Newsome mentioned that they’ve had conversations with free agent DL Brent Urban’s about re-signing him. (Jeff Zrebiec)
  • Newsome said that he anticipates changing the makeup of their wide receiver room but said that no decision has been made about Jeremy Maclin’s future. (Jeff Zrebiec)

Steelers

  • Jeremy Fowler of ESPN writes that the Steelers have more flexibility in the 2018 NFL Draft since Ben Roethlisberger is committed to returning, which leads Fowler to believe that the team will likely draft a defensive player with their first-round pick.
  • In addition, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said that he hopes Roethlisberger will return after he completed the final year of his two-year deal: “We know Ben is a franchise quarterback. Ben is a Hall of Fame quarterback,” Colbert said Wednesday. “We want Ben to have whatever years we have left with him. We want him to be the best, and we hope there is more than year to year. That he can go beyond the contract that he has.”
  • The Steelers plan to meet with Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph at the NFL combine. (Jeremy Fowler)
