Dolphins

Jets

  • Per SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano, Jets QB Sam Darnold said after thinking about it he and the team wanted to go ahead and make sure his shoulder has enough time to heal before he rushes back: “I think it’s a smart decision not to play. It’s just got to heal. It’s got to have time. That was kind of our mindset.”
  • Darnold said that should not mean he doesn’t play again this year and he’s “very confident” he can return: “I’m very confident that I’ll play again this year. For me it’s just making sure that when I do come back I’m 100%, so that when I do land on it or get hit it’s not getting reinjured.” (Vacchiano)
  • Jets DT Quinnen Williams will be limited in practice this week with a hamstring injury. (Connor Hughes)
  • However, first-round LT Mekhi Becton (chest) is “good to go” per Gase. (Brian Costello)

Patriots

  • Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Patriots QB Cam Newton said WR Julian Edelman is nearing a return: “I can confirm he’s getting better, he’s getting well … just to see him in good spirits and knowing that we’re doing our job as a team so when he comes back, it’s evident he’ll have help at that position.”
  • Patriots signed QB Jake Dolegala to their practice squad. (NFLTR)
  • Patriots released TE David Wells from their practice squad.
