AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Colts

Broncos

New Broncos P Marquette King told reporters shortly after he signed a three-year deal with the team that things came together quickly with Denver.

The last few days were definitely different. It felt like — you know how you play those UFC games and you get punched and you’re in a daze until you get knocked out? That’s what it kind of felt like,” King said, via Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post. “It all happened so fast. I just felt like Denver was the best team to go to. The people that I was familiar with that are here with the organization — you get a homely feeling when you get here. I’m just looking forward to competing and winning games. That’s all.”

King referred to Denver as “a punter’s paradise” and admitted that there’s a revenge factor to signing with the Broncos.

“I think there is somewhat of a revenge factor in there, too,” King said. “It’s a mixture of some of everything.”

Colts

Colts GM Chris Ballard said that the team pursued some high profile free agents, but that they backed out of deals after the price tag became too high.

“We were involved with some of the bigger name guys, but the value of what the price tag got, we backed out,” Ballard says, via Kevin Bowen.

Ballard went on to say that he is not opposed to spending in free agency and that the team had too many positions of need to sign a high-priced player.

“I don’t want to act like we are opposed to free agency,” Ballard said. “There will come a point where we are going to need a piece and we will go buy one. We just felt like we had so many (missing) pieces, that going to add 2 or 3 big name pieces, they weren’t going to fill all the holes that we have.”
