AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Dolphins, Ravens

Broncos

Broncos HC Vance Joseph told reporters he was “satisfied” by the play of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch during Thursday’s preseason opener.

“I was satisfied,” Joseph said, via the Denver Post. “Trevor was solid. He made some nice plays in the pass game. Paxton had some nice plays but we had so many penalties. … It hurt his drives. That’s why he played more. But overall it was a solid performance.”

Chiefs

Dolphins

Dolphins second-round LB Raekwon McMillan left Thursday’s preseason game after injuring his right knee during punt coverage.

Following the game, Dolphins HC Adam Gase explained he still doesn’t know the severity of McMillan’s injury, but added that they wanted to get him some reps on special teams during their first preseason game.

Nobody’s told me anything yet so you guys seem to have better sources than I do and I’m the head coach so I don’t know,” Gase said.

“We were talking about how he was possibly going to have to be on that (special) team. We knew we had to get him some reps at it, especially in a game. It’s just tough to see a young player go down and not knowing what happened.

McMillan was seen on crutches and sporting a large brace on his knee in the locker room after the game, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel.

Ravens

  • Jeff Zrebeic of the Baltimore Sun says it’s his understanding that the Ravens have held OL Austin Howard to buy him some time to get into better shape.
  • Zrebeic notes that the Ravens do not want to put Howard at risk of aggravating his shoulder injury by immediately playing him after he underwent surgery this offseason.
  • Howard explained after Thursday’s game that he’s just listening to the coaching and medical staff right now: “The coaches and the training staff came in with a certain protocol for me to do, and I have my trust in them. I rely on them to make those decisions for me and what’s best.” (Jamison Hensley)
