AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • KUSA’s Mike Klis says the Broncos kept tabs on the situation with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers this offseason but Green Bay never made him available via trade.
  • Klis adds Denver will move ahead with their planned competition between Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater for the starting quarterback job.

Chiefs

Chiefs CB Deandre Baker returned to the practice field after fully recovering from a broken femur he sustained in early January.

I’m pretty close to 100 percent,” Baker said via Nate Taylor of The Athletic. “I just want to help the team and show the guys that I want to be here, show them that I deserve to be here.

Baker, a former first-round pick in 2019 by the Giants, was released after being put on the commissioner’s exempt list after being charged with four counts of alleged armed robbery and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in May 2020.

Just be aware of your surroundings,” Baker said in his first public comments on the incident since he joined the Chiefs. “That’s all I can take away from that.”

After the charges were dropped in November, Baker found his way on to the Chiefs’ practice squad a few days later.

It means a lot to me that the Chiefs gave me another chance,” he said. “I’m just here to work and I’m happy to be here. It feels good to have that behind me. I’m looking forward to getting better with my team.

Raiders

  • NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports Raiders offensive quality control coach Tim Berbenich will replace newly retired RB coach Kirby Wilson.
