AFC Notes: Broncos, Dolphins, Jets

Broncos

  • Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post identifies another wide receiver to take attention away from Courtland Sutton as a need for the Broncos this offseason.
  • O’Halloran believes Broncos QB Joe Flacco is a likely cap casualty despite a $13.6 million dead cap hit because of $10.05 million in space it would create.
  • O’Halloran notes that if another team offers Broncos DL Shelby Harris a multi-year contract averaging $7 million per year, it might be enough to pry him away from Denver.

Dolphins

  • Dolphins’ veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick’s 2020 salary increases from $5.5 million to $8 million after he played in more than 75 percent of the offenses’ snaps this season. Fitzpatrick also has $4 million of his salary fully guaranteed. (Spotrac)

Jets

One of the priorities for Jets GM Joe Douglas in 2020 will be reducing the number of off-the-field stories that have tended to give the team a circus reputation. There were a number of public conflicts between Jets players and management in 2019. Douglas had to mollify S Jamal Adams after his name came up in rumors at the trade deadline, while both G Kelechi Osemele and WR Quincy Enunwa took to social media to express displeasure with how the team handled their medical situations.

“Honestly, we’ve had open and honest conversations,” Douglas said via ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “One of the things I can tell you is that communication is going to be a big thing that we improve on in the offseason. That’s going to be on me. That’s going to be on everybody. That’s going to be a big thing moving forward for the entire organization.”
