Browns
During an appearance on ESPN Live, Browns HC Hueย Jackson reiterated that Tyrod Taylor is the team’s quarterback, even though rookieย Baker Mayfield has done some good things in offseason workouts.
โTyrodโs our starting quarterback,โ Jackson said, via Ohio.com. โHeโs had a really, really good camp this year in the spring. Heโs been outstanding, and obviously Bakerโs done some really good things, too. Iโm really excited about his future. Obviously, he was the first player drafted, and heโs shown that in practice.
โHe has tremendous arm talent. He does a lot of things well. But, again, heโs a young player, and heโs trying to find his way and learn the National Football League and all the different things that we do. And I think weโre very fortunate and blessed to have Tyrod here because Tyrod is going to do some great things for us.
โMy job is to make sure that [Mayfield is] truly understanding and progressing forward in the National Football League, that every day the practice is purposeful and meaningful for him, that he learns what itโs going to take to play at a high level up here, and thatโs what weโre doing. But on top of that, also get our team ready to win football games, and thatโs why Tyrod Taylor is here.โ
Jaguars
Jaguars G A.J. Cann has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury over the last three weeks, but he’s hoping to return at some point in the near future.
“Heโs out there now in a limited role,” Jaguars HC Doug Marrone said, via Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.ย “I think weโre just trying to be cautious and see what happens when the mandatory minicamp comes. I wouldnโt be surprised if he takes a couple of reps, but I think he will go in that same category of risk [versus] reward. Get him in there and if there is a little bit high level of risk, itโs probably not worth it for the three days and he can just continue the way he has. Or [the trainers say], โHey listen, we really donโt see a lot of risk and he can go out there and take a couple of plays.โ I would let him go out there.โ
Titans
- Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site expects Titans OLB Kevin Dodd to show up for mandatory minicamp after being absent from OTAs.
- Although, Wyatt admits that Dodd faces an uphill battle making the active roster considering the depth at the position including Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, Harold Landry, and Aaron Wallace.
