AFC Notes: Browns, Ravens, Steelers

Browns

In recent media availability, OC Alex Van Pelt said he would like to see more of both RB Nick Chubb and RB Kareem Hunt on the field at the same time.

However, you want to put your most-talented players on the field, and Kareem is definitely deserving of getting playing time, along with Nick in certain packages,” Van Pelt said, via Browns Wire. “Those are things we have looked at in the offseason and will continue to grow.”

Ravens

When asked during recent media availability, Ravens HC John Harbaugh is “really pleased” with the development of the team’s offensive line while also praising recent additions made to the group.

Right, same thing. Getting those guys that are new, so getting them merged into the offense is a big part of it, and then also watching them play has been a pleasure. They’re all ball, all the time – both of those guys. Whether it’s meeting room, weight room, conditioning [or] on the field work – they’re all ball, all the time. I love that about them. I think they’re going to be a formidable tandem on the right side. I’m really pleased with them so far,” Harbaugh said, via RavensWire.

Steelers

With Mike Hilton off to the Bengals, the Steelers are looking for a new slot corner this season. One of the top candidates is CB Cam Sutton, but he can also play on the outside where the Steelers also have a need. Steelers DC Teryl highlighted 2020 sixth-round S Antoine Brooks as someone who has impressed them as a potential new starting nickel.

“When we looked at him coming out of Maryland, he was listed as a safety, but he basically played the nickel-type position,” Austin said via the Athletic’s Mark Kaboly. “He was very productive there. That’s where he has been working and what he’s been doing. He still has a ways to go, but I think the progress is coming. I think it was really important that we had an offseason this year and that will allow him to have the opportunity to win the job in there.”

  • Kaboly didn’t see anything out of Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins during OTAs to suggest that he’ll push Mason Rudolph for the No. 2 quarterback job.
  • Kaboly writes it’s not hard to draw a line between Steelers G David DeCastro‘s absence from OTAs and Pittsburgh hosting veteran G Trai Turner for a visit and surmise something might be up with DeCastro.
