AFC Notes: Chiefs, Jaguars, Texans

Chiefs

  • Tom Pelissero hears that the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on OLB Dee Ford in the coming weeks.
  • Pelissero mentions that there are questions about how veteran OLB Justin Houston and S Eric Berry fit into their cap situation moving forward after they tag Ford.

Jaguars

  • According to Albert Breer, the Jaguars’ decision to pick up their 2019 option on Calais Campbell means they’ll be looking for cap relief in other places.
  • Breer lists Marcell Dareus and Malik Jackson as two potential cap casualties worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks.
  • Tom Pelissero of NFL Media says that while the Jaguars have been mentioned as the most logical landing spot for QB Nick Foles, they may be reluctant to part with a draft pick on top of signing Foles to a market value contract.
  • According to Pelissero, the Eagles could end up being disappointed if they’re counting on the Jaguars to drive the trade market for Foles.

Texans

  • Jason La Canfora writes that he isn’t sure if there’s “long-term marriage to be had” between the Texans OLB Jadeveon Clowney and says he would actually bet against it.
  • La Canfora wonders if the Texans could consider trading Clowney next year after playing a second straight franchise tag to him.
