AFC Notes: Chiefs, Jets, Patriots, & Texans

Chiefs

• Adam Teicher writes that while the Chiefs could consider trading one of their cornerbacks due to their depth at the position, Sean Smith‘s three-game suspension complicates the situation for Kansas City.
• Teicher gets the impression that Josh Mauga will start next to ILB Derrick Johnson.
• However, Teicher admits that fourth-round pick Ramik Wilson could still win the job or takeover at some point.

Jets

• According to Rich Cimini, the Jets were among the interested teams in veteran G Evan Mathis before he signed with the Broncos.

Patriots

• Mike Reiss of ESPN projects the Patriots to place WR Brandon LaFell on the PUP list to begin the season.
• Reiss doesn’t see WRs Josh Boyce or Chris Harper making the 53-man roster.
• Despite trading for TE Asante Cleveland last week, Reiss doesn’t think he’ll be able to make the team.
• Another player whom the Patriots traded for that could be on the outside looking in is G Ryan Groy, according to Reiss.

Texans

• Texans HC Bill O’Brien said that LT Duane Brown has a hand injury and will “miss some time here.” (Drew Dougherty)
