Colts TE Jack Doyle said he’s grateful to be entering his ninth year in the NFL and is slightly surprised by the longevity of his career.
“Time does fly and you just take it one year at a time,” Doyle said, via Mike Chappell. “Sometimes some of the younger players will ask, ‘What year is this for you?’ It’s weird to say ‘Nine.’ If you would’ve asked Jack Doyle back in 2013 how many years he was going to play in the NFL, I don’t know if I would’ve said nine. But it’s just fun to be here every day and be with the guys playing a kids’ game.’’
Jaguars OLB Josh Allen believes the defense is already showing improvements.
“Last year was last year,” Allen said, via Jaguars Wire. “We have a whole new different group, we have a whole new different scheme, we have a whole new different coaching staff that’s going to help us get to where we need. Game one, we’re going to get right and we’re going to apply a lot more pressure.”
“We’re all going to get better for that, and I can’t wait.”
Allen added he and OLB K’Lavon Chaisson are more comfortable in the new scheme.
“We’re playing what got us here, so going back to those habits, going back to those traits, I feel like it’s a good sign for both of us – [Dawuane] Smoot as well,” Allen said. “I’m just excited to see us put pads on so we can really put that to use and make a lot of plays.
“We’re all making plays so as long as we all continue to do that, no matter who we have out there, we’ll be straight.”
New Jets’ DE Carl Lawson says he plans on reaching a level where his play is “otherworldly” in New York.
“I feel like the sky is the limit,” Lawson said, via Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post. “But, at the end of the day, this is life. Not every goal you set is going to happen because there are external factors. But I will do everything in my power possible to reach my highest level of potential and what I think I can possibly be, which is something otherworldly.”
“I’m an explosive athlete, but you have to be able to control it,” Lawson said. “Mainly focusing on being strong, stable, durable, and available, especially now that we have 17 games.”
