AFC Notes: Davante Adams, Sean Payton, Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

Broncos HC Sean Payton said he debated not showing the team the game film from Miami due to how bad it was.

“It’s a tough film to watch,” Payton said, via ESPN. “We’d be remiss if we didn’t. As unpleasant as it’s going to be, we’ve got to get these things cleaned up.

Payton added that the team’s turnovers as well as self-inflicted penalties both widened the deficit.

There’s a handful of things that jump out at you,” Payton explained. “Three offensive turnovers all lead to touchdowns — that’s 21 points. Typically speaking, when you see a score that high, the one thing that has to exist is turnovers. We did a poor job of setting the edge on defense. We struggled taking away some of the things we knew he [Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa] likes to throw. Offensively, we had two touchdowns called back due to penalties.

Payton added that this week will be a litmus test to see what the team is made of.

No. 1, attention to detail to what we’re doing in practice has to improve,” Payton said. “This is one of those weeks, where you take a butt-whipping like that, where you find out a lot about everyone.

Chargers

The Chargers have been easing first-round WR Quentin Johnston into the mix early in the season. But after the season-ending knee injury to starting WR Mike Williams, Los Angeles will be counting on Johnston to step up and help replace him. He had two catches for 10 yards in Week 3, which were season highs.

“It felt good, just there to help any way I can,” Johnston said via ESPN’s Kris Rhim. “It was in a weird situation with Mike going down. We still got prayers going out for him. But it felt good just to get a rhythm in the game … I came in behind some great guys and in my receiver room, and I feel like up to this point, I picked up enough to go out there and show what I can do.”

Raiders

Raiders HC Josh McDaniels said he understands WR Davante Adams‘ frustration.

I mean at some point you want to have it instead of be learning it,” McDaniels said, via PFT. “I think we’re all trying to compete and win. I know where he’s coming from, and I think we have a lot of guys that are coming from that same perspective. And it’s frustrating when you put a lot into it and you don’t get the results you’re looking for. So, I understand exactly where he’s coming from.

  1. And we Raiders fans want Josh McDaniels out of there but also Marcus Peters is a bum also, that secondary was getting beat consistently in Sunday’s night game, it was a lot of bad defensive play calling also but overall the defensive line earned about a B- minus Sunday , I think that the Raiders would be doing their self some justice if they were to bring back Jon Gruden because he would get the offense rolling and with that, we have a good enough defense to make some noise just tweak the secondary a bit … #Just win baby @Raiders also #Jimmy G is not the answer
