Dolphins

Dolphins HC Jeff Hafley said that RB De’Von Achane will have to be in good condition given the workload that he will have this coming season.

“I just gave Achane a heads-up this morning and I told him you better be in good shape,” Hafley said, via Pro Football Talk. “I told him there might be some games when I have to pick him up and carry him back to the locker room because he’s going to be so tired. I told him I don’t ever want to see one of these head taps all year, and he looked me right in the eye and he said, ‘You’ll never get that head tap from me.’ I said, ‘Don’t worry buddy. After you touch the ball 40-45 times, I might have to pick you up and carry you back into the locker room.’ I love the guy. You want to talk about a guy with some juice, a guy whose personality is starting to come out, a guy who’s starting to become a leader. I like those guys.”

“He’s one of the smarter players when you talk to him,” Hafley added. “He’s really a smart football player and it’s fun to go back and forth with him and he’s got this fun energy about him. I think he’s a stud.”

Jets

• Jets WR coach Shawn Jefferson had high praise for WR Adonai Mitchell: “If he continues on this trajectory right here, he will be a really good Robin for our Batman (Garrett Wilson).” (Zack Rosenblatt)
• Jefferson also couldn’t hold back how much he likes WR Isaiah Williams: “He’s a dog. If I was in a burning building, boop boop boop boop (dialing a phone), ‘I need you to come get me.’ He’s on the way. Just to put it bluntly like that. He’s the heartbeat on our offense.” (Rosenblatt)

Patriots

Chad Graff of The Athletic takes a look at several of the Patriots’ defensive players after one week of training camp:

• Graff writes that EDGE Harold Landry is having a “disappointing offseason” because of his lingering knee injury keeping him out of practice. Graff thinks that Landry’s health is a “real question” as the regular season approaches.  
• Although Graff thought it was risky for New England to re-sign DT Milton Williams to a four-year, $104 million contract last year, he thinks the defensive tackle “looks primed for another strong year.”
• Graff notes that the coaching staff has been working with DT Christian Barmore on turning pressures into sacks, and is confident that the interior rusher will “triple” his sack total of two from last season. 
• With EDGE Dre’Mont Jones, Graff writes that he will undoubtedly contribute against the run, but questions how he will perform against the pass. 
• Graff believes second-year DL Joshua Farmer is “on the roster bubble” entering the preseason, while DL Eric Gregory also needs to earn a spot in the preseason. 
• Graff mentions that EDGE Bradyn Swinson dropped 15 pounds over the offseason and looks “noticeably faster.”
• Graff also thinks EDGE Quintayvious Hutchins can push for a final roster spot with a strong preseason. 
• Regarding LB Christian Elliss, Graff writes that he will need to perform well against the pass to keep his starting role.
