AFC Notes: Dolphins, Patriots, Texans, Titans

Dolphins

James Walker of ESPN writes that the Dolphins would be “foolish” to allow WR Jarvis Landry to sign elsewhere in free agency next year, even though it’s clear he’ll command a high salary.

Dolphins assistant HC Darren Rizzi offered some high praise for Landry and the competitiveness he brings to the team.

“He’s an unbelievable competitor, and no matter where I’ve coached — college and the NFL, this is my 25th season — I don’t know if I can say I’ve had a more competitive guy than Jarvis on game days,” Rizzi said. “He brings a lot of energy to the team, to the sideline. He’s really into the game. That’s really contagious.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Patriots

Texans

Texans HC Bill O’Brien told reporters on Monday that he wants to be back in Houston next season.

“I enjoy being the head coach of the Houston Texans,” O’Brien said, per Sarah Barshop. “I expect to be here, but those decisions are not made by me.

O’Brien said his agent hasn’t had a conversation with Texans owner Bob McNair regarding a contract extension and he has “no idea” if that will happen after the season, per Barshop.

Titans

Titans HC Mike Mularkey said that LT Taylor Lewan will undergo an MRI on his back today.

According to Lewan, he woke up on Sunday morning with a stiff back and spasms. Until Sunday, Lewan said he hadn’t experienced issues with the back.

“It could be as simple as being tight, wrong day and wrong time,” Lewan said, via TitansOnline.com. “I just have to get on top of it and get good treatment and get this thing loosened up. I don’t foresee this being a long-term issue. I just need to get on top of it.”
