AFC Notes: Nick Bolton, Josh McDaniels, Brandon Staley, Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders

Chargers

Chargers HC Brandon Staley wants the team to have a fresh start after a tough loss to the Chiefs that has their roster at 2-4 so far this season.

“It’s frustrating. I can’t tell you why the season is starting this way, but it is,” Staley said, via the team website. “It’s no one’s responsibility but mine. We’ve got a good football team and we need to reset as a football team. We need to reset. We’ve had two tough losses in a row but we’ve got a good football team. We’ve just got to make sure that we keep it simple, and keep doing the little things well because this is a good group of guys. This is a good football team and we need to get back to work.”

Chiefs

  • Chiefs LB Nick Bolton dislocated his wrist against the Chargers, per HC Andy Reid. (Adam Schefter)
  • According to Ian Rapoport, Bolton will undergo more tests on the wrist but is likely to miss games regardless of the outcome.

Raiders

Raiders HC Josh McDaniels says he won’t second-guess his decision to start veteran QB Brian Hoyer over rookie QB Aidan O’Connell

“I saw Aidan in the L.A. game. Had an opportunity to really understand what was going on there. Saw Brian last week in the New England game,” McDaniels said, via Pro Football Talk. “So just made a decision to try to go with the veteran guy and try to go out there and play a solid game. I’m not going to second guess that.”

“I mean, look, I don’t think everything was the quarterback’s fault, certainly,” McDaniels added. “I thought there were some missed opportunities that we had. This isn’t the preseason anymore. We had an entire week of practice in L.A., most of the week. We had an opportunity to practice with him. There were some good things. There were some other things that we needed to work on and fix and obviously get better and improve. Such is life in that regard. When your starter is not available, you’re trying to make what you think is the best decision for the team. Again, I don’t put this all on one person now. Let’s make sure we make that clear. There are a lot of people that can do a better job of what we did today. That’s what we’re going to need to do.”
