AFC Notes: Raiders, Texans, Titans

Raiders

New Raiders WR Ryan Grant says he’s “super excited” and “ecstatic” to be joining Oakland.

But I’m happy where I am now,” Grant said during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio. “Super excited to be a part of the Raiders organization. It’s the spirit and the culture of the team. And it just feels like I’ve been drafted all over again. I’m just so ecstatic.”

Texans

  • Ian Rapoport mentions that Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence‘s $21 million annual salary means Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney, who is currently under the franchise tag, will demand “at least” $20 million per year in future contract negotiations.
  • In total, Lawrence walked away with $105 million over the course of five years and $65 million guaranteed.
  • There have been rumors this offseason about teams showing trade interest in franchise tag edge rushers like Clowney and Frank Clark of the Seahawks, but it remains to be seen whether there’s anything to them or not.
  • A GM told Matt Verderame of Fansided that he believes Clowney and Clark will be discussed in trade talks prior to the draft.
  • Verderame says that the Texans value Clowney and are willing to sign him on a long-deal deal, but he has never recorded double-digit sacks and has an injury history.

Titans

  • Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site points out that the team’s “biggest needs” are at edge rusher, defensive line, interior offensive line, and receiver.
  • Wyatt adds that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Titans added a tight end.
  • Although Titans G Kevin Pamphile is “in the mix” for the starting right guard role, Wyatt expects the team to sign competition at his position.
  • Syracuse QB Eric Dungey, DL Chris Slayton and WR Jamal Custis worked out privately for the Titans on Friday. (Aaron Wilson)
