AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

  • Broncos ILB Josey Jewell (ankle) said he will play in Week 14’s game against the 49ers: “Not even a question.” (Mike Klis)
  • Jeff Legwold of ESPN points out that Broncos’ rookie WRs Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton are likely to start Week 14.

Chargers

Chargers TE Antonio Gates admitted that it’s been “challenging” to play a smaller role in the team’s offense, but he’s focused on the bigger picture.

It’s challenging when you become accustomed to doing something for so long and doing it at a high level,” Gates said, via ESPN.com. “But the bigger picture is not what I can do individually. It’s more about the team and what I can do to help us win, and I just need to be ready for that time, whenever it’s called.

  • Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said of RB Melvin Gordon’s availability this week: “You never know… You just want everybody preparing for everybody.
  • Ian Rapoport mentions that this doesn’t sound too optimistic for Gordon’s Week 14 status.

Raiders

Raiders’ recently signed RB C.J. Anderson said he is “happy” with his decision to sign with Oakland despite “some playoffs teams” pursuing him.

We’re all happy. Good decision. Good organization. Obviously grew up here, grew up in the stadium. Last time I been here, I think Tim Brown and Bobby Brooks were holding a camp, so a long time ago. It just feels good to have another opportunity to play football and do what I love to do. Grew up in the Coliseum. Came to a lot of games, screaming chants and everything. I know all about the history,” said Anderson, via Matt Schneidman of Bay Area News Group
