Bears Place TE Martellus Bennett On I.R. & Sign TE Rob Housler

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that theyโ€™ve placed TE Martellus Bennett on season-ending injured reserve with a rib injury and signed TE Rob Housler.

Bennett, 28, is in the third year of his four-year, $20.4 million contract that included $5.215 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $4.9 million (2015), and $5.085 million (2016) over the remainder of the contract.

This season, Bennettโ€™s 2015 season comes to an end with him appearing 11 games and recording 53 receptions for 439 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

Housler, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals who played out his rookie contract with the team. The Browns wound up signing him to a one-year,  $1.76 million contract back in April, but he was placed on injured reserve close to a month ago.

Cleveland wound up waiving him from I.R. on November 17. Housler also landed a workout with the Jets since being waived, but was not offered a contract.

This season, Housler has appeared in six games and recording just a single reception for six yards receiving for the Browns.
