The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they’ve placedย TE Martellus Bennett on season-ending injured reserve with a rib injury andย signed TE Rob Housler.
Bennett, 28, is in the third year of his four-year, $20.4 million contractย that includedย $5.215 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries ofย $4.9 million (2015), andย $5.085 million (2016) over the remainder of the contract.
This season,ย Bennett’s 2015 season comes to an end with him appearing 11 games and recording 53 receptions for 439 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
Housler, 27,ย is a formerย third-round pick of the Cardinals who played out his rookie contract with the team. The Browns wound up signing him to a one-year,ย $1.76 million contract back in April, butย he was placed on injured reserve close to a month ago.
Cleveland wound up waiving him from I.R.ย on November 17. Housler also landed a workout with the Jets since being waived, but was not offered a contract.
This season, Houslerย hasย appeared in six games and recording just a single reception for six yards receiving for the Browns.
