Bears Plan To Stick With Mitch Trubisky As Starting QB In 2020

Bears GM Ryan Pace told reporters on Monday that they plan to have Mitchell Trubisky be the team’s starting quarterback in 2020.

“Mitch is the starter and we believe in him and we believe in the progress he is going to continue to make,” Pace said, per Brad Biggs.

When asked about picking up Trubisky’s fifth-year option, Pace said: “We’re not at that point right now.

While the Bears may not want to announce their intentions to pick up Trubisky’s option right now, it’s highly unlikely they would decline the option and then make him their starter.

Either way, it would not be surprising to see the Bears look to add competition at quarterback for Trubisky, given that there will be several available options in the coming months to consider.

Trubisky, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Bears back in 2017. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $29 million contract that included a $19.17 million signing bonus and set to make a base salary of $2.21 million in 2020.

In 2019, Trubisky has appeared in 15 games for the Bears and completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions to go along with 193 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
