Bears Signing OLB Howard Jones To Practice Squad, DL Release DL Mike Purcell

The Chicago Bears announced that they’ve signed OLB Howard Jones to their practice squad on Friday and released DL Mike Purcell from the unit.

The Bears’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. OL Brandon Greene
  2. DL Rashaad Coward
  3. LB Isaiah Irving
  4. OL Cameron Lee
  5. TE Ben Braunecker (Exception)
  6. WR Mario Alford
  7. WR Tanner Gentry
  8. DB Doran Grant
  9. LB Jason Thompson
  10. OLB Howard Jones

Jones, 27, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in Pittsburgh before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Buccaneers’ practice squad.

Tampa Bay declined to tender him a contract an exclusive rights offer this past February which allowed him to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Jones appeared in eight games for the Buccaneers and recorded three tackles and fumble a recovery.
