Bills GM Buddy Nix mentioned a few weeks back that Ryan Fitzpatrick may not be the franchise quarterback that they thought he was going to be and seemed to suggest that they would strongly consider taking a quarterback in next year’s draft. Since then, Nix has backed off of the idea and took the time to explain his thinking recently.
“That’s not necessarily true. I mean, we’re going to always stay with the integrity of the [draft] board. But we’re going to try to find a quarterback. If one’s there, and he’s rated at the right spot, we’re going to take him whenever that is,” said Nix, via theย Buffalo News.
Next year’s class of quarterbacks isn’t believed to be all that strong of a group, so it makes sense that Nix would caution fans against the idea that they’re sold on taking someone in the first-round.
“I just don’t want to get people expecting that no matter who’s there in the first round we’re going to take a quarterback because that’s not true,” added Nix.
For what it’s worth, we have the Bills passing on a quarterback in the first-round of our recently updated 2013 NFL Mock Draft.
